Quotes on Marty

PROMARK, EVANS / D'ADDARIO, TOTALLY COMMITTED TO DRUMMING
 EDUCATION IN SCHOOLS AND BEYOND!

D'addario supports marty fullard and drumming education

Marty works on the paradigm that drum lessons should be fun & ez to understand.
 Here's the deal:
FUN = LEARNING = IMPROVING = GROWING = DESIRE TO PLAY MORE
= the bottomline - GET GOOD
= GET GOOD  =  GETTING BETTER
inspire others to learn
see the cycle ?
Long term strategy means the student has gained
tools to become, not just a drummer, but a musician,
gotten confidence which enhances self esteem
- in adults, teens & children

Through working in schools as a Special needs' drum educator, Marty has seen how developing correct drumming techniques and drills will lead to confidence and correct development.

Marty's sessions are constructed and are specifically designed to meet the needs and requirements of the individual.  Marty's drumming concepts are left -of- field (out side the box) as Marty realizes that one size doesn't fit all. There is emphasis on individuality and the importance of good technique. You can partner individuality with learning as well as developing music skills like music notation (if desired), garage band, playing along to favorite songs
blah, blah, blah.
Marty is in a unique position in the sense that his drumming education has seen him coach over 2000 students - including Billboard selling Artists, & drummers with physical challenges. Marty's desire for the student is that she/he will be maxed out with fun, joy and  develop a long term love for drumming.

"Drumming is for everybody, period. If you want to play drums, don't let anybody or anything, stand in your way. If you have a willing spirit to learn, improve & get good, there's not one reason to stop you.  Don't allow people to "label" you or put obstacles in your way.  With determination & a genuine heart, you'll reach your goals, doesn't matter what it looks likes. Heck, you might even have fun in the process "

Marty brings to the drumset the American philosophy of drumming education. "In Southern California drum education is taken extremely seriously, it's an art, educating drummers is an honor that's not to be treated with a grain of salt".

"Death and life are in the power of the tongue".  The very words we use have the power to bless and  bring hope, compassion and life.  On the flip side, our words also have the power to bring death, defeat and discouragement.  People can very easily become what they're told. I believe this is called a "self fulfilling prophecy".  I have found this to be especially true with children.  If you tell a child, he or she is a failure and is worth nothing, it's only a matter of time before they start to believe it.  Likewise, if you speak over children words of positive reinforcement and encouragement, it becomes a matter of time before they start to believe it and live it.  This is the philosophy that I bring to drum education.  It is not "merely" words, but positive, pro-active drum education.  When educating people from different backgrounds and different cultures as well as differing political and religious views, the education has to reflect that.  We are all different! All our views count! We all matter! Every person has a right to play drums and to be treated INDIVIDUALLY and with repeat. Drumming is for everybody.  Drumming crosses boundaries, it jumps over obstacles and it breaks down language difficulties.  Drumming is fun, and in my opinion, it's the greatest instrument in the world.  I strongly believe that there is no educational obstacle or any other reason to stop anybody who genuinely desires to play drums.  Of course, practicing does go a long way, and doing all that you can to better yourself is paramount.

What you can expect from a first session -

Your drums tuned and set up to you own personal settings (this is one of the advantages of taking lessons on your own drums).

Explanation of drums, sticks, cymbals and all percussive instruments.

Explanation of the drum head and it's importance to both batter and resonate side, the relationship between the head and bearing edge.

History of drumming, history of stick grips, explanation of stick technique including the fulcrum and the column. Explaining matched and traditional grip, and giving the individual choice in both. Explanation of American, French and German grips.

Introduction to music theory (at the individual's discretion). Introduction to notation and drum music.
In depth technique and understanding of entry level beats and fills, right thru advanced levels of playing including poly rhythms and linear patterns, jazz and Latin.

in depth introduction and expansion of the American Rudiments.

All sessions are customized to meet the needs and requirements of the individual.  The sessions differ according to individual requirements and standards.  One size doesn't fit all.

Get ready to enjoy and have fun!
