My eight-year old has severe learning difficulties. Society, and even his 2nd grade teacher told him that he was unable to focus. My son always showed a passion for playing drums, yet sadly, other drum teachers told us that he could never "hold it down." That all changed! Marty is so incredibly patient and understanding. Marty saw the talent in my son and drew it out. Not only is my son able to practise, but he reads drum music. My son has finally found his thing! I am delighted that Marty has had such a powerful and real impact on our son and his learning. It has been a real lesson for my son. All obstacles can be over come. Tonya, RSM.
I was told by my band-'shape up or find another gig'. Marty coached me intently on how to find the 'one'. I now know what's it is 'to-be-in-the-pocket'. My drumming and groove is better and tighter than ever. My band loves me! Richard, Laguna Beach.
Marty, I wanted to take the time to email you and thank you for helping me with my stick technique. As you know, prior to our sessions, I had really bad wrist pain. My previous drum instructor encouraged me that 'pain was good!' Not only did you correctly educate me on the importance of my fingers and wrist movement, but you also helped me with warm up exercises. I am using less energy when I play, and more importantly the pain is decreasing. I now realize the importance of technique. I know that over time, the pain will be gone. Thank you also for the support with ProMark. Cougar, Lake Forest.
Marty, thank you for being such a positive role model for our two rock stars. Jimmy and Ed love you! Your patience and kindness really shows through as you educate. Thank you for your obvious passion and love of drumming. They are making enormous strides forward on their quest for super stardom! And doing their homework!!!! John & Mary, San Clemente.
Marty, what can I say? Suzie thinks that you totally rock!!! As I write, she is playing along to Nirvana. Her 8th note rox! (HA-HA-HA). She loves the fills and working on the rudiments, especially the double stroke roll. I am amazing that she is enjoying the written stuff as much as the practical, YOU ROCK DUDE!!!! She will develop the bounce and buzz, we all know that. Thank you for believing in her. Thank you for you endless support and encouragement. Tony, Tustin.
Mr. Fullard, I want to formally thank you for the drum sticks and drum heads. You're right! The sound and difference to the kit is amazing. Is it water or oil in the heads? The good sticks really have helped. Marie was always told to play with heavier sticks, you're right! the pain she was feeling WAS due to the fact that she used to play with thick sticks. The "7A's" ARE MUCH BETTER. We've noticed that's she's practicing more because she's not in pain. Also, that practise pad was a great idea. Thank you for taking the time and trouble to patiently help her. Your instruction regarding finger technique has been really beneficial. Too be honest, I was always under the impression that drumming was about how hard you can hit the drum! She is loving learning and we all look forward to you coming over for our weekly session. S.J.C, Del Mar.
If you want technique, style and groove, you're the man-dude! Lorri, Newport Coast.
Marty brings to the table maturity. He is all about bringing drumming to a different level. His approach and view is refreshing and very genuine. If you want sessions to be technical and reading based, sure! if you want a practical approach, sure! If you want both, Marty can do that. As far as I'm concerned, every single area of my drumming is in the process of maturing and improving. Heck! I can even tune those tubs! Danny, Irvine.
Okay, I don't know how he does it! He teaches my 12 year old. My son is all into marching and stuff. Me, I'm in my fifties and picked up bad habits. Twenty years ago or so I played in a band. I met my wife, had kids, blah, blah, blah. Seeing my son play kind of got me started again. Marty has kicked me into shape. I had so many bad habits, not just the way I held my sticks, but the way I sat, the way I played beats and did fills. Now I read music and I groove baby, grrrrrrrrrrrrrooooooooooooveeeeeeeee. Cheers bro. Kevin and Sean, Mission Viejo.
Having read the various testimonies regarding Marty Fullard, I asked Marty if I could write very briefly about my experience of drum lessons. Marty teaches my 13 year old daughter here in Walsall, West Midlands. I have found that having three children and being "their taxi" is stressful enough without having the added pressure of getting my kids to their lessons' ON TIME. As well as drumming lessons, I have my other kids' dance classes. The fact that Marty arrives on time every single week which saves me time and money AND Marty is very reliable. Also, lets be honest. My daughter was having drum tuition at a music store before I was lucky enough to find Marty. I would say my daughter has improved more in four weeks with Marty than she did in eighteen months with the other drum teacher(s). In-fact I would recommend her previous drum teachers get lessons from Marty Fullard. Monica Davies, Walsall, West Midlands, England.
The problem was, my son was getting messed around by other drum teachers. At the music store he used to have lessons with, we never know if it would be the same drum teacher week in, week out. Marty has changed all that. We know with Marty he'll turn up, right time, right place, every week. And yeah, he's excellent. Raj, Wolverhampton, West Midlands, England.
